My girlfriends mom’s kitchen is done in apples. And yes, there are many different shades of red. But it all blends in, it looks great. Here’s some ideas for you that they have in their kitchen:
-a little apple shaped rug in front of the sink
-apple magnets on the fridge. even some green ones.
-one blank wall is dedicated to apple themed hangings. there are red apples, small ones, big ones, metal ones, ceramic ones.
-an apple clock
-white curtains with apples on them
-an apple napkin holder for the counter top
-and of course, apple themed hand towels and oven mitts.
-a set of five apple themed mugs on a mug hanger on the wall.

Red is a very in your face color and could be a real problem if you are planning on selling your home in the future. If not, go for it. Do what makes you happy. Kitchens are the biggest selling points in a home.
Red is one of the hardest colors to paint on walls and may take several coats to establish a nice even look.
